August 2018 – National Art competition “Colour the coach” winner!

MashaAllah, one of our Year 8 pupils, Emira Jaouadi’s colourful poster promoting Birmingham won an online public vote after being shortlisted with six other spectacular designs from youngsters from the Midlands who entered the “colour the coach” competition.

This year youngsters were asked to design a poster advertising their hometown and Emira, who studies at Al-Burhan Grammar School, drew a fantastic picture of Birmingham including landmarks such as the new Library of Birmingham, the Custard Factory and Victoria Square.

Her design will now be turned into a special one-off liver on the side of a National Ecpress coach carrying passengers to and from Birmingham.

National Express Coach Managing Director Chris Hardy said: “Congratulations to Emira for producing such a fantastic poster of Birmingham. We were really impressed by the colour and creativity of her design, and the fact that it shows off some of the great things you can see and do in the city. Her picture is going to look amazing when splashed across the side of a coach and we can’t wait to see it.”

Emira said: “I’m really happy to have won when I was up against so many other good drawings. I hope my poster encourages more people to come and visit Birmingham as it is a really good place to live with lots to see and do.”

Dr Mohammad Nasrullah, Headteacher, said: “We were all pleased with the news that Emira Jaoudi and Salma Wasfy were shortlisted for National express’s Colour the Coach competition and we were delighted when we learned that Emira has been declared as a winner of the competition in the Midlands.

“We warmly congratulate Emira for her hard work and are very pleased that her talent and efforts have been recognised. We also congratulate our Art teacher Mrs Baldock for her teaching and support.

“We hope that this will encourage more students to come forward and show the talent which is present in so many young people.”
